Punjab Cooperation and Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said today that the state government will give 15 January to the state of sugarcane farmers of all debts.

Starting the new crushing season (2018-19) in the Nakodar Co-Operative Sugar Mill, Randhawa said the government had also decided to set up a co-operative fund worth Rs 300 crore for farmers so that they did not face any kind of issue in getting payments for their crop

Addressing the gathering, Randhawa said none of the co-operative sugar mills in the state would be shut down. Instead, the government had taken the modernization process into all co-operative sugar mills and milk plants. He said the mills would start preparing other products in the state.

He also announced to give Rs 5 crore to Nakodar Sugar Mill and asserted that its capacity would be enhanced from 500 to 3,500 tons of cane crushing per day (TCD).

The minister said all co-operative societies were being strengthened by the government. He also met people and listened to their problems.

Meanwhile, Shahkot MLA Hardev Singh Ladi Sherowalia spoke about developmental projects worth Rs 225 crore approved by the state government in two years for his constituency. - TNS
